Virginia Record Seal

Clear Your Virginia Criminal Record

Virginia has a new law. It lets many people clear old criminal records.

The law started on July 1, 2026. It lets you ask a court to seal an old case. A sealed case is hidden from most people, like employers. Some cases seal on their own — no lawyer needed.

This site gives you an honest answer about your case. Checking takes about 5 minutes. It is always free.

Who this is for

You may qualify if:

  • You have a misdemeanor conviction
  • You have a Class 5 or Class 6 felony conviction
  • You have a theft charge under Va. Code § 18.2-95
  • The offense happened on or after January 1, 1986
  • Enough time has passed (7 years for misdemeanors, 10 years for felonies)
  • You have filed 2 or fewer sealing petitions before

Every case is different. The eligibility check gives you a real answer.

What it costs

$1,500 flat fee. No hourly billing.

  • This covers writing and filing your petition
  • This covers the required notice to the Commonwealth's Attorney
  • Not included: getting your own criminal history record
  • Not included: a court hearing, if you need one — we quote that cost first, and you approve it before we charge you
